Katrina and Stephen met at church during their freshman year in college at UC Davis. They had mutual friends and after graduation Katrina had plans to go to grad school in Virginia. One evening, Katrina was practicing her graduation speech and asked Stephen for feedback, after she was finished Stephen broached the subject about them dating and his feelings for her. As they do, Katrina and Stephen talked about all the details of how they would date long distance and their intentions. After two years of long distance, they were both finally back in their hometowns in the SF Bay Area and Stephen proposed to Katrina.
Katrina is a teacher and doesn’t work during the summer so they set their sights on a summer 2020 wedding date. However, due to the pandemic they had to scale back their wedding plans significantly. What was suppose to be a big wedding celebration with family and friends, got changed to a different location. Then another location. Ultimately their wedding ceremony included just their immediate family and bridal party in Katrina’s aunt’s housing development park. Video cameras were set up on tripods to live feed the wedding ceremony for guests watching on Zoom, the couple cut their wedding cake, and a car parade of friends that couldn’t attend the ceremony surprised the couple.
Katrina and Stephen plan on having a reception next summer with all their family and friends that couldn’t attend the wedding. And, recently they shared with me that there will be a new family member at the party. They are expecting their first child this spring.
